Ontario’s lakeside resort villas, once considered the jewel in the crown of lakefront communities, have been sold to the highest bidder.
The Lakeside Resort, which is a $1.8-million ($1.5 million) condominium at the former Lakeview Golf Course, will be turned into luxury homes.
It will include a spa, restaurant, bar and lounge with a spa-like pool and a fitness center.
The purchase price was not disclosed, but the Lakeside’s current owner, the Duchy of Cornwall, is said to be in discussions with a Chinese company about the purchase.
It was not immediately clear whether the buyers would have the option of moving the lakeside properties to the town of Windsor, Ont., a suburb of Toronto.
“The Lakesidres and Lakeside villa were originally built by a group of Ontario golfers who had lived at Lakeview,” a statement from the Dukes of Cornwall said.
“Over the years, the lakeshore community has grown and evolved into a vibrant community of people who enjoy the local lake, lakefront and beach.
It is an exciting time for the Lakesidre.”
